Fuel Tank Skid Plate – Suzuki Samurai / SJ 410 – SJ 413 – Santana (1981–2004)

On the Samurai, the fuel tank is one of the most exposed points of the underbody. On technical terrain it is among the first components to meet rock, and damage there means stopping the vehicle exactly where it stands.

The MG Off Road fuel tank skid plate is made from 6 mm high-strength aluminium and covers the full vulnerable area of the tank.

The material

This is the most important part of the product, and it does not come down to "harder is better".

Harder aluminium alloys tend to crack under a concentrated impact against bare rock. The alloy used here behaves differently: it absorbs impact energy by deforming, with no cracking and no sudden failure. That is the behaviour you want from a plate built to take hits, not to survive a single one.

Two further practical advantages:

• Corrosion. The alloy resists salt water, mud and road salt. A steel plate starts rusting the moment rock scrapes the paint away — in the least accessible part of the vehicle. This one does not.
• Weight. At equal thickness, aluminium weighs around a third of steel: full protection without loading the underbody.

Installation

The plate uses only the holes already present on the vehicle: no extra drilling, no welding, no permanent modification. The fit is direct and fully reversible.
